Description: The AirPhysio® Low Lung Capacity device is designed for people affected by lung or respiratory conditions such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic bronchitis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), bronchiectasis, emphysema and RSV. It also aids in the recovery from pneumonia, colds and flu and is suitable for individuals with respiratory muscle weakness and low lung capacity due to advanced age. Utilising the airway clearance techniques that doctors have been using in hospitals for years, the Oscillating Positive Expiratory Pressure (OPEP) device is a simple, yet effective lung training tool that loosens and mobilises thick mucus in the airways which makes it hard to breathe. Directions: 1. Take a deep abdominal breath and fill your lungs completely 2. Hold your breath for 2 to 3 seconds 3. Place the AirPhysio® in your mouth and exhale at a consistent pace for 3-5 seconds until you empty your lungs. Take it easy and don’t blow too hard. Blowing too quickly or too hard may overexert your lungs and make you feel tight in the chest. 4. The aim is to make the steel ball oscillate (move) so it lifts slightly off the cone. Most people can achieve this without too much exertion, but it may take a little while to train up your lung capacity. 5. Adjust the device so the cap faces the ceiling and tilt it until you achieve maximum vibrations in your chest. To amplify the effect in your chest, try to keep your cheeks fully expanded. 6. After exhaling through the device, you may feel mucus gathering at the back of your throat or near the top of your lungs. If so, cough to expel the mucus. 7. Repeat steps 1 to 6 approximately 2 times per minute for up to 5 minutes. To reduce the chance of feeling lightheaded, take two deep breaths between each session.
Product Warnings: Keep out of the reach of children and do not allow the AirPhysio® device to be used by unsupervised children. The device is designed to be pulled apart for cleaning for multiple uses. Because of this, some of the small parts like the stainless steel ball and circular cone pose a choking hazard.
